On Friday 13th November, 300 Year 9 and Year 10 students from Hanley Castle High School were given the opportunity to quiz representatives from local businesses and organisations about how they use languages in their work.
The event organised by Mrs Jacqui Burrows (Head of Modern Languages) and Debbie Tunstall (Worcestershire Education Business Partnership Adviser) was to give students an insight into how important languages are in the world of work. Mrs Burrows explained why she had organised the conference: “All students at Hanley Castle study a language until the end of Key Stage 4, so it’s really important that they understand the relevance of this for their future.” Local businesses were very generous with their time and each presented a series of 40-minute workshops which the students attended. It was fascinating to hear about the range of opportunities available if you speak more than one language.
